Short Thought continued.....

A Dream

Three years ago whilst chatting with my coach about what I’d like the next five years

to look like, I expressed a heart-felt dream to do a theology degree.

This surprised me!  I find study challenging, I don’t need a degree

as a qualification and there are plenty of other things I could invest in.

I prayed to God about my dream and thought I heard him say:

“It will be part-time and through a local church”.

I chose to leave the dream with God and to see what He would do.

Three years pass by.  Through an unexpected conversation, I discover a local church

is setting up a new programme offering part-time degree courses.

My dream resurfaces.

I sense God opening it up in His way and timing.

To my surprise I now find myself starting a theology degree!

I resonate with Sarah who ‘laughed silently to herself’ at The Lord’s plans (Genesis 18:12).

Sarah had a heart-felt dream of bearing children.

She believed in this dream as the Lord had said to Abraham:

‘“you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.”’ (Genesis 15:4 NLT)

Yet as the years passed by Sarah having not born a child intervened:

‘So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children.

Go and sleep with my servant.  Perhaps I can have children through her.”’

(Genesis 16:1-2 NLT)

Sarah thought she could take things into her own hands and bring her dream into being.

But she interfered with God’s plans and brought strife on herself, her husband and Hagar.

More years passed by with Sarah still waiting.  Eventually her dream was fulfilled.

‘The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised.

She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age.

This happened at just the time God had said it would ’

(Genesis 21:1-2 NLT)

Perhaps you have a dream and wonder how or when God might bring it into being.

As you wait don’t be tempted to take things into your own hands:

to intervene or interfere and make it happen.

Strife may follow.

Choose to pray to God; leave your dream with Him and see what He does.

If your dream is synchronised with God’s plans, He will fulfil what He has promised and

He will bring it into being in His way and it will ‘happen at just the time He said it would’.
