Short Thought continued.....
Limitations Reframed
As part of my course homework, a thought provoking question was posed to me:
What limitations are part of your life at present?
I thought of my husband’s life choices and lifestyle, of the care that my children need,
of another family member who has needed a lot of my care and time over the past few months,
of my current financial circumstances…
Perhaps there are other things that come to your mind…
the state of your home, the time or energy taken up by work, a health issue...
But are these really limitations?
I wonder if perhaps the only limitations which are a part of our lives are ourselves.
Perhaps our thoughts, perceptions, fears or doubts are the only things which truly limit us.
Does any other person or any other thing really limit us from
being the person God created us to be or to do what He’s asking of us?
We could think that in some way our family limits us or we could choose to reframe
this to see that this is where God is asking us to love and serve Him and others.
We could think money limits us or we could choose to reframe
this to faithfully believe that God will provide what is needed.
We could think that our ill health limits us or we could choose to reframe
this to consider what opportunities this gives us to depend on Jesus and to be a witness for Him to others.
What limitations are part of your life at present?
Pause to consider:
How am I limiting myself?
What do I need to reframe?
‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,
but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.’
(Romans 12:2 NLT)
