Short Thought continued.....

Space for new

Throughout last year I took on a project;

one which was hard work, yet very satisfying.

The project was the redesigning of a neglected garden.

I began the work, it’s underway but it isn’t finished yet!

There has been a lot of cutting back and taking out: the overgrown,

damaged, wilting, old and dead plants, shrubs and trees have gone.

It took expertise and knowledge to know how or what to cut back or take out.

I needed to continually stand back to take a good look at what was before me

and to look from many different perspectives.

I needed to see what was overgrown, damaged, wilting, old or dead.

I needed to see how best to create space for new growth, a new design,

and a new planting scheme…

.

Space for new.

It was also a year where Jesus was creating space for new in my life and

for this space to be created some things needed to be cut back, taken out or let go of.

Cutting back, taking out, letting go even in order to create space for new,

isn’t always an easy process to go through.

During my experience I learnt the value of taking time to stand besides Jesus so that

He could show me His perspective and He could share His expertise and knowledge.

This took time and happened throughout the year.

He showed me what was overgrown, damaged, wilting, old or dead.

He showed me what to cut back, what to take out and what to let go of.

Jesus graciously showed me something of the pathway He was making and

together we created space for His new plans and purposes.

I also learnt that the space which has been created won’t be filled immediately.

There will be space – a gap – emptiness.

At times I feel uncomfortable with this; other times I feel a need to

grieve over what has been cut back, taken out or let go of.

There are also times when I feel excited and energised over the

potential and opportunity for the new which Jesus is taking me into.

I also know that the new which He is doing has begun, it’s underway,

there’s much more to come – it isn’t finished yet!

As I move with Jesus into the new I need to be

faithful, brave, courageous, hopeful, expectant...

“But forget all that - it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”

(Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT)

In light of His promise that He is about to do something new:

What is Jesus showing you to cut back, take out or let go of?

How is Jesus creating space for new?
