Short Thought continued.....

Prepared by God

‘The Lord does not look at the things people look at.

People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’

(1 Samuel 16:7 NIV)

David was chosen by God for a special task: to become king.

He was not the expected choice but he was God’s choice.

David was anointed as a younger boy by the prophet Samuel,

however he didn’t become king for many years.

During this time of waiting David went through years of preparation.

One of David’s times of preparation was his fight with Goliath.

David was sent by his father to take provisions to his brothers who were serving in

the Israelite army.  On his arrival, David saw that God’s name was being dishonoured

by the enemy, the Philistines.  David wasn’t happy about this, it troubled his heart.

He also saw that the Israelite army was afraid, that they didn’t have faith in God.

David was prepared to be used by God;

he had complete confidence and assurance in Him.

David was just a young boy, again not the expected choice.

When a giant was to be faced, would the youngest, smallest,

least physically prepared and equipped person be selected?

However, David was prepared, not by the army but by God.

While David was looking after the sheep, he had protected them

from lions and bears.  When necessary he fought and killed these

fierce animals with simple weapons – a slingshot and stones.

These were the weapons with which he also killed Goliath.

God was also preparing David’s heart: for when David came to stand

against Goliath he came in the name of the Lord, he came in faith,

with courage and with a willingness to do things God’s way.

‘David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin,

but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty,

the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”’

(1 Samuel 17:45 NIV)

David won the battle because the battle was God’s.

David was God’s chosen one whom He directed, equipped and blessed.

God knew that David’s heart was wholeheartedly after Him.

How is God preparing your heart?  For what special task?

Where and how is God asking you to take a stand for Him, with faith and in His Name?

You may feel that you are not the person others are expecting,

but in your heart you know God is asking you to be courageous and to faithfully and obediently follow Him.

He’s been preparing you for what is ahead.

Know with complete confidence and assurance that faith in His name and desire for

His glory is all God needs to direct, equip and bless His chosen ones with success.
